British Summertime can always be unpredictable but lately we have all been enjoying the beautiful sunshine. However, not all of us enjoy the extreme heat, our plants, for one, can struggle, and there is nothing worse than creating your stunning Summer garden with lots of lovely plants for them only to wilt in the sun. That's where we come in...... Here at Bow we love helping to not only create your dream garden but to help it thrive in all seasons, so follow some of our Heat wave Gardening Tips to help rescue your Summer Garden...

1. When it comes to watering we have all been guilty of forgetting on the odd occasion, but in the heat it is vital that you stick to a watering regime. Always water your plants either early morning or late evening, never in the heat of the day, as you run the risk of scorching the leaves. Also you want your plants roots to be able to absorb the maximum amount of water, and in the hottest part of the day the water will evaporate too quickly.

2. Mulch Mulch and Mulch some more! Topdressing your plants with mulch is a great way to help your plants retain moisture, and protect them from heat. Here at Bow we have Strulch that will do the trick, or you can also use bark (especially great for borders).

3. Whilst relaxing in the garden most of us will escape the heat under a parasol, and your plants (especially ones in containers) are no different. So share the shade and cover your containers with a parasol, or move them into shadier areas.

4. The grass is not always greener! During times of extreme heat our lovely lush lawns get the raw end of the deal and can show the most damage. A good way of helping to protect your lawn is to leave your grass cuttings once mowed, to help retain moisture.

5. Save it for a rainy day...Before we are within a hosepipe ban, it is a good idea to conserve water where you can (obviously within reason folks). Water butts are brilliant for storing water and re-using rainwater.
