Trailing plants are one of the easiest ways to add life and movement to a room — brilliant on shelves, in hanging pots, or draping over the edge of a sideboard.
There's something quietly wonderful about a well-placed houseplant. Whether it's a lush monstera filling a corner, a trail of pothos cascading from a shelf, or a simple succulent sitting on a sunny windowsill, plants make a house feel more like a home.
At Bow Garden Centre, we stock a wide and ever-changing range of houseplants — from easy-care favourites for beginners to more unusual varieties for enthusiasts. We also stock everything you need to keep them happy: specialist composts, pots and planters, feeds, and propagation supplies. And if you're ever not sure what to buy or how to care for something, our team will always find the time to help.

Houseplant care basics
Light
Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light — near a window but out of direct harsh sun. A south-facing window is excellent for cacti and succulents. A north-facing room will suit ferns, pothos, and peace lilies better than sun-lovers.
Watering
Overwatering is the most common cause of houseplant death. As a rule: water thoroughly, then let the compost partially dry out before watering again. Always check the compost with your finger before watering — if it feels damp a few centimetres down, it can wait. Reduce watering in Winter when plants grow more slowly.
Feeding
During the growing season (Spring to early Autumn), feed most houseplants fortnightly with a balanced liquid feed. We stock a good range of specialist houseplant feeds in store.
Humidity
Many houseplants are originally from tropical climates and appreciate some humidity. Bathrooms and kitchens are often good spots. A pebble tray with water beneath the pot helps, as does misting occasionally. Avoid placing plants directly next to radiators.
Repotting
Most houseplants benefit from being moved to a slightly larger pot every year or two, ideally in spring. Signs it's time: roots appearing from drainage holes, the plant wilting quickly after watering, or noticeably slowed growth. We stock a range of pots and houseplant composts to help.
